KiwiRail ACM Removal

$3.6 million KiwiRail

ABOUT THE PROJECT

KiwiRail  :  $3.6 million

At the KiwiRail Southdown yard a substantial amount of asbestos-contaminated material needed to be removed to allow for development works to the infrastructure on site. Approximately 22,650 tons of contaminated material was excavated and removed to the Redvale tipping facility.

The removals also included 35 trees between 200-400mm in trunk girth, and about 7400m2 of vegetation within the contaminated zones an approximately 9,000m2 within uncontaminated zones.

Ground improvement was carried out across areas which were deemed “soft” and improved by undercutting and filling with hardfill material. An overall area of close to 16,000m2 was also reshaped and new pavement constructed, importing large quantities of sub-basecourse and basecourse material to be placed graded and compacted.
