ABOUT THE PROJECT
Wallace Group Ltd: $4 million
This project involved the construction of a 30,000m² aggregate yard on a peat-based site, requiring a tailored geotechnical and civil approach to ensure long-term performance and stability. The works were delivered with a strong focus on quality, environmental management, and technical precision.
Scope of Works
- Site Clearance & Service Locate: Cleared vegetation and debris and identified underground services to ensure safe excavation and construction.
- Erosion and Sediment Control: Installed silt fences, sediment traps, and diversion channels to manage runoff and protect surrounding environments.
- Bulk Earthworks: Carried out large-scale earthmoving, with specific attention to managing peat displacement and achieving design levels.
- Placement of Geocloth and Geogrid: Installed geosynthetics to reinforce the subgrade, improve load distribution, and reduce settlement risk
- Placement of 600mm Thick Hardfill: Constructed a robust engineered platform using compacted hardfill to support heavy-duty operations.
- Installation of Stormwater (SW) Lines: Installed stormwater in peat which required a carefully engineered approach due to the soil’s high moisture content, low shear strength, and potential for long-term settlement. Trenching through peat was managed using trench shields and staged excavation to prevent collapse. Excavation was closely monitored to maintain safe working conditions.
- Installation and Monitoring of Settlement Devices: Installed settlement plates and inclinometers to monitor ground movement and validate design assumptions.
- Installation of Utility Ducting & Water Supply: Installed essential underground services to support future site operations.
