THE PROJECT
KiwiRail : $1.5 million
Over the 2024–2025 Christmas period, McKenzie & Parma successfully completed a major upgrade of 1.24 kilometres of track at Puhinui Station, enhancing the reliability and performance of this critical section of Auckland’s rail network.
The project involved:
- Replacing 560 metres of single track (up and down main lines)
- Replacing 340 metres of double track
- Installing a new pavement layer and topping it with fresh ballast
To meet the tight schedule, the work was carried out in 24-hour shifts over 14 consecutive days (December 29, 2024 – January 11, 2025). The project demanded meticulous planning and seamless coordination, especially given the constrained work environment around the station’s existing structures and overhead line (OHL) systems.
Close collaboration between the track and OHL contractors was key to delivering the project safely, efficiently, and on time—demonstrating our commitment to delivering high-quality infrastructure upgrades with minimal disruption.
