KiwiRail Road 35 & 36 Upgrade

$1.5 million KiwiRail

ABOUT THE PROJECT

KiwiRail  :  $1.5 million

The project involved the upgrade of two existing rail tracks/roads leading into the KiwiRail Southdown CT site. Both roads (approximately 860m long each) were removed and replaced with a concrete slab track on Road 35 and concrete sleeper track on Road 36. This also included the installation of stormwater drainage and services ducting running alongside the length of both roads as well as the removal of excavated asbestos contaminated material. The road upgrade allowed KiwiRail to double the volume of freight entering the Southdown yard.

Working directly for KiwiRail, McKenzie & Parma, Fulton Hogan/John Holland JV and Conslab formed a collaborative construction team to plan and execute the project to be carried out over a 10 day block-of-line closure on a 24hr basis, over the Christmas/New Year period.
